    Fuel Options Guide

When renting a car, it is crucial to be aware of what fuel policy applies, as the options can be confusing. Clients have different needs and the cars we offer have different policies depending on the supplier. To make sure this information is visible enough, Auto Europe has recently added a new feature to its booking engine to allow you to choose the car with the right fuel policy for you. You can now quickly see if either "Pick-Up Full & Return Full" or "Pre-Purchased Fuel & Return Empty" policy applies to the selected cars. And to help you decide we have detailed the two of them.

    Pick-Up Full & Return Full

Pick up full, return full on fuel

    • This is the most common fuel policy used by most car hire companies. When choosing the "Pick-Up Full & Return Full" policy you will be given a car with a full tank of fuel and you will be obliged to return it full. In the case you will not be returning the car with a full tank of fuel, extra charges will apply for the missing fuel plus a refuelling charge.

    • Always double-check whether the tank is full before leaving with the car and tell the supplier before you take off. If the tank is not full make sure you have the right amount of fuel written down on your rental agreement to be allowed only refuel the same amount when you return the vehicle. Otherwise as per the policy described previously you will be charged for the missing fuel plus extra refuelling charges.

    Pre-Purchased Fuel & Return Empty

    Fuel Options Full Empty

    • This type of fuel policy is more recent and has become more popular in Southern Europe or with some suppliers in the USA, especially with low-cost companies. With this alternative, you have to pay locally at the time of pick-up for the initial tank of fuel and you return the vehicle with the tank as empty as possible as there is no refund for unused fuel. Note sometimes suppliers offer refunds for unused fuel if rental is less than three days, but not all of them.

    • Clients need to be aware that the initial tank of fuel is more expensive than if they refuel the car themselves.

    Other Policies:

Please note for some of the countries the fuel policy filter may not appear yet. So if you don't see this feature when making your search you can still check out the fuel policy by clicking "Rate Details" or "Terms and Conditions".
